PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roger Johnson (ranked 4777 p4p, 4899 weight class) and Conor Nolan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roger Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Conor Nolan!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Nolan pushes him off.
Johnson shoots in but no luck this time.
Nolan dives in for a single leg takedown but Johnson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
No luck for Nolan with that takedown attempt.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Nolan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nolan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nolan looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well.

Nolan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
Johnson is trying to push Nolan away but Nolan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nolan breaks the clinch.
Jab, jab by Johnson - just one landing.
Nolan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Nolan tries for a takedown but Johnson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nolan shoots in looking for a takedown but Johnson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nolan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Johnson gets tackled into the cage by Nolan. Nolan maintains the clinch.

Nolan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson fails to land with a series of punches.
Johnson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Nolan moves into the clinch.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nolan.

and Nolan counters with a nice low kick that buckles Johnson's knee momentarily.

Nolan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Johnson misses with a few strikes there.
Nolan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Nolan persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson throws a head kick but Nolan moves out of range.
Nolan is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Johnson throws a nice looking combination but Nolan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Nolan rushes Johnson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nolan stalls.

Nolan decides to pull guard.
Nolan has Johnson pulled in close to control his posture.

Nolan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johnson defends well.
Nolan pulls Johnson in close to prevent any damage.

Nolan pushes Johnson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nolan.
Nolan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson tries to clinch there but Nolan circles away.

Nolan moves into the clinch.
Johnson is looking to take this one to the mat.
Nolan lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Johnson has had enough of the clinch but Nolan keeps him there for the moment.
Johnson prevents the takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Nolan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnson goes for a double leg but Nolan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nolan continues to drive forward.

Nolan is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nolan down to the mat. Nolan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nolan on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nolan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nolan works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Nolan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Nolan passes to side control.

A lull in the action here.
Nolan throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Nolan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nolan delivers a nice body kick.
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Nolan. Nolan gets slowly back to his feet.

Nolan rushes Johnson and presses him up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Johnson gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Nolan manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Johnson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nolan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nolan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nolan checks a low kick from Johnson.
Johnson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nolan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Nolan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nolan throws a head kick that misses.
Nolan fails with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Conor Nolan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Johnson throws a strike but Nolan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Johnson takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Nolan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Johnson throws the left hand but Nolan avoids the punch easily.
Nolan changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Nolan shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense.

Nolan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Nolan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Johnson is defending well.

Nolan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Nolan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Nolan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
