CWC 301 - Prelims PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 7 losses; Bogdan Kersikov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 6 losses; Bubba Rolls! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Kersikov tries to keep at a distance but Rolls has taken the fight into the clinch. Kersikov gets underhooks to prevent Rolls's takedown attempt.
Rolls jumps guard.
Kersikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rolls swivels though and keeps the full guard. Rolls is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kersikov preventing the sweep. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kersikov's corner is telling him to maintain position. Rolls wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rolls is trying to control the position but Kersikov postures up. Kersikov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Rolls wants to improve his position but instead Kersikov has moved into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kersikov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Kersikov passes Rolls's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rolls is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rolls has a hand on Kersikov's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Kersikov takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Score +3 for passing guard: Kersikov (3) vs (0) Rolls Kersikov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rolls really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Rolls wants to control but Kersikov is having none of it. Rolls reaches up to try and control the position but Kersikov seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Rolls rolls and tries to escape and now Kersikov has his back!

Kersikov is looking to control Rolls but Rolls is wriggling around and keeping busy. Rolls is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Kersikov off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Kersikov doesn't have the hooks in and Rolls manages to turn into his guard.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Rolls looking to sit in guard and control but Kersikov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kersikov (8) vs (2) Rolls Rolls looking to control.
Kersikov wants to pass the guard but Rolls is keeping the position. Kersikov wants to control from the top but Rolls keeps moving. Kersikov postures up.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Rolls is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Kersikov sitting in guard here, content to control. Rolls working a defensive guard here.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Rolls manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kersikov manages to get himself to full guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kersikov (8) vs (4) Rolls Kersikov seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Kersikov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rolls forces his way into half guard. Kersikov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rolls is working away from the top position though.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kersikov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kersikov. Rolls trying to control but Kersikov is working from the bottom. Kersikov is looking for a triangle but Rolls pushes his legs off easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kersikov is on top in guard.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Rolls escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kersikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Our spies down at at Cloud9 inform us that Rolls has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Kersikov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rolls is keeping the position for now. Kersikov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Kersikov postures up.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Rolls looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kersikov pushing down on Rolls's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Kersikov controlling the pace. Kersikov is trying to control the action in half guard but Rolls is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov is pressing down on Rolls's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rolls is holding on for now. Kersikov is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rolls tries to get to full guard but Kersikov has control of the leg. Rolls moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov wants to control from the top but Rolls keeps moving. Rolls wants to sweep here but Kersikov controlling him for the moment. Rolls is pulling down on Kersikov's head to control his posture. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rolls keeping moving, preventing Kersikov from controlling successfully.
And that's the end of the fight! Kersikov takes the fight on points by 10 to 4. Our winner, Bogdan Kersikov, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. |
