With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dontrel Lewis! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Michael Lewis has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Dontrel Lewis. Michael Lewis fails with a takedown attempt. Michael Lewis dodges the punch combination from Dontrel Lewis.
Dontrel Lewis looks to land a combination but Michael Lewis avoids it well. Michael Lewis was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Michael Lewis is looking to clinch but Dontrel Lewis is avoiding it.
Michael Lewis tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Dontrel Lewis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Michael Lewis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Dontrel Lewis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Michael Lewis is in Dontrel Lewis's guard. Michael Lewis advances position into side control! Michael Lewis is chipping away with strikes.
Michael Lewis tries for a kimura but Dontrel Lewis is defending well. Michael Lewis wants to stand but Dontrel Lewis is controlling his arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dontrel Lewis defending against the ground and pound. Dontrel Lewis is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Michael Lewis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Michael Lewis wants to pass to mount but Dontrel Lewis is defending the position. Dontrel Lewis is refusing to be controlled, as Michael Lewis sits in half guard. Dontrel Lewis keeps control of the position for the meantime. Michael Lewis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Dontrel Lewis gets full guard. Michael Lewis wants to get up but he can't break Dontrel Lewis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Michael Lewis working some strikes from top position. Dontrel Lewis pulls Michael Lewis in close to prevent any damage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Michael Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Dontrel Lewis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Michael Lewis. I think Michael Lewis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
