Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dr James Andrews! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Buddy! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Andrews swings for the body but Buddy moves out of range.
Andrews tries to bum rush Buddy with a series of wild strikes but Buddy uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Buddy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Buddy lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Buddy won't allow Andrews to sweep him here. Buddy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Buddy controls from within his opponent's guard. Buddy lands a couple of decent looking shots. Andrews is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Buddy is controlling him. Buddy landing with the ground and pound. Buddy won't allow Andrews to get back to his feet. Andrews wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Buddy manages to pass to side control. Buddy working over Andrews with some ground and pound. Andrews looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Buddy drops an elbow to the side of Andrews's head. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Andrews is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Andrews wants to get back to full guard but Buddy has mounted him! Andrews's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Buddy landing strikes from the mount. Buddy loads up with a big shot that hurts Andrews! He's pulled Buddy in close but Buddy has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Andrews survive? More strikes from Buddy and Andrews is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Robert Buddy!
