Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pawlik (ranked 8 p4p, 10 weight class) and Jacque Joteel (ranked 1 p4p, 2 weight class). Pawlik comes to the cage accompanied by John Butler - Ocean . Joteel is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Moogwalze. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jacque Joteel was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 22 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jacque Joteel! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circle momentarily. Pawlik darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Joteel lands with an overhand left. Joteel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pawlik.
Joteel throws a nice outside leg kick. Joteel misses with a straight left. Joteel looks to land a left hand but Pawlik moved out of range nicely. Pawlik feinted with a counter takedown. Joteel misses with a looping left. Joteel tries to work over Pawlik's front leg with a kick but Pawlik checks it. Joteel throws a lazy right hand but Pawlik sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Joteel just misses with a punch to the body.
A jab from Joteel misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joteel avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Pawlik throws a hook but Joteel avoids it easily. A clash of legs there as Pawlik blocks the low kick. Pawlik drops down looking for a counter takedown but Joteel sprawls and moves away. Joteel fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Pawlik is out of range. Pawlik lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlik uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Joteel. Joteel throws a body punch but Pawlik moves out of range. Joteel connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Pawlik drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Joteel looks to land a right hand but Pawlik moved out of range. Joteel throws a body punch but Pawlik moves out of range. Pawlik looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Joteel moves out of range of the strikes. Joteel defending well as Pawlik loads up on a big left hand. Pawlik misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Joteel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Pawlik blocks a jab. Pawlik lands with a good body shot. Joteel avoids the body shot from Pawlik.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Pawlik. Joteel does a little dance to reset his feet. Joteel misses the shot to the body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pawlik darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Pawlik decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Joteel wants to control but Pawlik is keeping busy.

Pawlik looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Joteel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Pawlik is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Pawlik trying to pass the guard but Joteel defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joteel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Pawlik tries to pass the half guard into mount. Joteel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Joteel tries to roll over but Pawlik keeps him under control. Pawlik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Joteel is not content to let Pawlik control the position. Pawlik is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Joteel sees it coming and defends easily. Pawlik lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Joteel tries to get to full guard but Pawlik has control of the leg. We've been informed that Joteel has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Pawlik throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Joteel is not content to let Pawlik control the position. Joteel is looking to escape. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jacque Joteel will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Joteel connects with a solid leg kick. Joteel connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Pawlik misses with a lunging right hand
and Joteel counters with an inside leg kick. Pawlik works over Joteel's head and body with a nice combination. Pawlik takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

and Pawlik counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pawlik. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pawlik controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Joteel is trying to control the position but Pawlik postures up. Pawlik is looking to work some ground and pound but Joteel has wrist control. Pawlik postures up and lands a big shot to Joteel's brow. Pawlik postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlik wants to control from the top but Joteel keeps moving. Joteel looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Joteel seems keen to control Pawlik's posture. Pawlik working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Pawlik is pushing down on Joteel's leg trying to pass to half guard. Joteel is fighting to maintain full guard but Pawlik has managed to sneak the leg through. Pawlik wants to take a breather but Joteel is having none of it. Pawlik slows the pace down in half guard. Pawlik trying to control the action but Joteel is working from the bottom. Pawlik seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Pawlik seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Pawlik has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Joteel slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Pawlik trying to control but Joteel is working from the bottom. Joteel is pulling down on Pawlik's head. It's preventing any offense from Pawlik, at least for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Joteel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pawlik. Pawlik with a body punch. A glancing blow. Pawlik throws a shot from downtown. Joteel moves away and avoids it. Nice takedown defense from Joteel. No joy for Pawlik on that attempt. Pawlik misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Joteel is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Pawlik with a body shot. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Pawlik. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pawlik takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Joteel thuds his right hand into Pawlik's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Pawlik closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pawlik is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joteel has escaped the position, nice work there. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Dick Pawlik will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Joteel wants to slow Pawlik down by chopping away at his legs. Pawlik attempts a counter takedown but Joteel avoids it well and moves away. Pawlik swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Pawlik gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Pawlik pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Pawlik working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Pawlik can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Joteel is looking to escape. Joteel is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dick Pawlik clearly takes that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Joteel thuds a left hand into Pawlik's body. Joteel throws a lazy body kick and Pawlik counters with a nice double leg into side control. Joteel won't be happy with that. Pawlik is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Joteel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Pawlik has hold of Joteel's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Joteel tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Pawlik cranks the arm and Joteel screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Joteel, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dick Pawlik! Dick Pawlik retains his lightweight title! A very excited looking Dick Pawlik made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
