Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Tate Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eric Ries!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tate Jr dives in for a single leg takedown but Ries sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Ries breaks from the clinch.

Tate Jr throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tate Jr has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rabid Dog in the buildup to the fight.
Tate Jr tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ries defends well and Tate Jr ends up having to push Ries into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ries ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tate Jr moves away.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ries! But no joy.
Ries paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Ries in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Aaron Tate Jr is winning the standup battle so far.
Ries leaves Tate Jr with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No joy there for Tate Jr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tate Jr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ries sends Tate Jr crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Ries is motioning to the referee to let Tate Jr up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Oh Tate Jr is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ries is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Tate Jr flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Tate Jr is out cold! Ries holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
