Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronnie Coleman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, frank mir! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! mir scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Coleman is doing well to control the position and prevent mir from advancing to side control. Coleman wants to control but mir passes into side.
mir tries to move to mount but Coleman blocks the move with his legs. Coleman tries to buck mir off but mir is having none of it. mir tries to stand but Coleman controls the position and pulls mir into his guard. mir wants to get up but he can't break Coleman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Coleman trying to keep a closed guard but mir is proving a slippery customer.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. mir moves in looking to clinch but Coleman pushes him off.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with mir but mir pushes him off and we're back to square one. Coleman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Coleman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but mir sees it coming and defends easily. mir is refusing to be controlled, as Coleman sits in half guard. Coleman is working for a submission of some sort.
Coleman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but mir does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. mir wants to get back to full guard. Coleman wants to free his trapped foot but mir is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. mir shoots and misses and Coleman counters with a nice double leg into half guard. mir looks gassed! Coleman tries to pass the half guard into mount. mir knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Coleman passes the guard and advances to mount! Coleman looking to control but mir is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Coleman could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. mir prevents Coleman from taking his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Coleman prevents mir from getting the reversal. Coleman jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… mir is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by mir and Coleman has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Coleman looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Coleman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. mir is not content to let Coleman control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Coleman taking a breather here. mir is trying to control Coleman's posture but Coleman avoids it. Coleman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, mir has escaped the position, nice work there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

mir tries to get back to half guard but can't. Coleman takes mir's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.

Coleman has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, mir has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
mir is breathing heavily. Coleman is persistently looking for the submission but mir is defending it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. mir can't escape the position.
Coleman is not going to allow mir to sit and survive in this position. Coleman tightening his grip on mir, looking for the choke. Coleman is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. mir is defending well though. Coleman let's go of the attempt for now. Coleman trying to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coleman has the hooks in. mir is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Coleman slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
