The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Werhooven is looking for a counter combo.

Maia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Maia closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Werhooven quickly recovers to half guard.

Werhooven is trying to stand up here but Maia is controlling him well.
Maia tries to pass the half guard into mount. Werhooven knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Maia passes the guard and advances to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Werhooven is surviving well by controlling Maia's body position as best he can.

Maia throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Werhooven has his hands clasped together but Maia breaks the hold and Werhooven is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Maia!
