PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Cole (ranked 149 p4p, 262 weight class) and Better Dead (ranked 20 p4p, 37 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 3, fighting out of New York, James Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Better Dead!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, John Mangel and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Cole.

Oooooh!!! Cole has knocked Dead down with a huge combo! Cole steps away and waves a wobbly Dead back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Better Dead has been cut.
Cole throws a leg kick which misses Dead's front leg but catches the back leg as Dead tries to avoid it.
Dead misses with a lunging right hand
and Cole cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cole uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dead has time to react.

Dead is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dead fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Dead is still on wobbly legs! Can Cole finish him?
Cole takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Dead seems to have recovered his senses.
Dead misses with an uppercut
and Cole counters with a nice low kick that buckles Dead's knee momentarily.
Dead has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Cole.
Dead misses the jab.

Cole closes the distance and clinches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Cole.
Cole tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Cole lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Cole lands an uppercut.
Cole lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Cole lands with a left to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Cole.
Cole lands a left hand that snaps the head of Dead backwards.
Cole lands with a left to the head.
Cole lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Cole softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
I was talking to Cole's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Cole lands a shoulder strike.
Cole lands a body shot in the clinch.
Dead's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Cole lands a left hand.
Dead is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dead can't break the clinch.
Cole lands a hook that snaps the head of Dead backwards.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cole working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Dead blocks an uppercut.
Cole misses with a short punch on the inside.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cole lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Cole lands a nice shot to the body.
Cole scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Cole misses with the head strike.
Cole lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Dead tries to circle away but Cole has him pinned against the cage.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cole.
Cole lands a damaging elbow.

That has opened up Better Dead's cut even more.
Cole lands with a short shot to the head.
Cole lands an elbow inside that Dead shrugs off.

The cut above Better Dead's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Dead is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cole lands a right hand that snaps the head of Dead backwards.

Better Dead's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Cole working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Dead takes an elbow to the forehead.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Better Dead's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). James Cole!
James Cole spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
