PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Devon Bagg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Barat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Devon Bagg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Carl Barat!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Barat.
Bagg shoots in and drives through. Barat sprawls well.
Barat misses with a body kick.
Barat circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bagg will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Carl Barat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bagg throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barat's waist but Barat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bagg off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Bagg. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barat is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bagg swats away the attempt to clinch by Barat.
Bagg slips a jab and a cross from Barat.
No joy there for Barat, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barat looks to clinch

and Bagg counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Barat's guard now.
Bagg trying to control the position from guard on top but Barat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bagg tries to free his leg and advance position but Barat is retaining full guard.
Barat avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Barat wants to get back to his feet but Bagg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Barat looking for a sweep. Not yet Barat, not yet.
Barat is pulling down on Bagg's head to control his posture.
Bagg throws a strike but Barat rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Bagg looking for a guillotine here but Barat defends easily.
Bagg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bagg is breathing heavily.
Bagg tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Barat decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bagg, up you get!

Barat has closed the distance and engaged Bagg in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bagg breaks the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Barat can't break the clinch.
Barat wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Barat stops a takedown attempt from Bagg.
Bagg prevents Barat from breaking the clinch.
Bagg looking for a takedown.
Bagg wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Bagg breaks from the clinch.
Barat throws a combination that misses

and Bagg counters with a takedown into side control.
Barat manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bagg's best efforts.
Bagg thows a huge punch but Barat dodges it nicely.
Bagg slips a nice elbow through Barat's hands, connecting with Barat's forehead.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bagg not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Barat won't allow Bagg to pass to mount.
Barat keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bagg is working for a kimura but Barat is defending it quite comfortably.
Bagg tries to pass to full mount but Barat defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barat tries to kick Bagg off but Bagg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Barat holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Barat lands a left and a right that sends Bagg crashing to the canvas! Barat dives into mount looking to finish!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bagg can't escape the position.
Bagg is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bagg working to try and regain half guard.
Bagg on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bagg tries to get out of the position.
Barat lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barat controlling from mount.
Bagg is squirming around, avoiding Barat's attempts to control the action.
Barat looking to control and managing it successfully.
Barat avoids the attempt from Bagg to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barat has control of Bagg's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bagg regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Carl Barat will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bagg looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barat is fending him off so far but Bagg persists. Nope, Barat circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bagg tries to score a body lock takedown but Barat shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Barat looking to stall.

Bagg pulls guard successfully.

Barat decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bagg, up you get!
Barat throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Bagg shoots in but Barat avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Bagg. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barat comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Barat scores with a nice body kick.
Barat stuffs the takedown.
Bagg shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Devon Bagg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Barat darts in trying to clinch

and Bagg counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bagg.
Barat is breathing heavily.
Bagg throwing strikes from guard but Barat blocks nicely.
Bagg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Bagg stands up from Barat's guard - Bagg perhaps looking for a knockout.
Carl Barat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bagg shoots in but no luck this time.
Nice takedown defense from Barat. No joy for Bagg on that attempt.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Bagg!


Barat is rocked!
Bagg throws a series of punches but Barat avoids them all with ease.
Barat is still on wobbly legs! Can Bagg finish him?
Some wild striking there from Bagg.

Bagg shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Bagg slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Bagg lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Devon Bagg!
