This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 1 losses; Big Dog Gracie! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Zulu rushes Gracie and presses him up against the cage. Gracie is fighting off a takedown attempt but Zulu is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gracie to the mat. Gracie regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zulu is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold. Zulu won't allow Gracie to pass to mount. My spies in KingsJiuJitsuAcademy inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Zulu is holding on to half guard well. Zulu wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
