PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Futeran (ranked 2499 p4p, 3505 weight class) and Eddie Bravo (ranked 293 p4p, 384 weight class). Futeran's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Jesus Christ Superstar. Eddie Bravo has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Futeran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eddie Bravo!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Futeran's jab looks to have found its range, popping Bravo under the eye.
Bravo checks a low kick from Futeran.
Futeran lands a slapping body shot.
Bravo takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Futeran digs a good hook to Bravo's body.
Futeran just misses with a punch to the body.
Futeran tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bravo is able to avoid easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bravo! But no joy.
Futeran swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Futeran shoots for a takedown but Bravo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bravo feints the counter takedown.
Futeran stuns Bravo with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Futeran feints a jab promting Bravo to slip. Futeran then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bravo slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bravo checks the leg kick nicely there.
Futeran misses the shot to the body.
Futeran will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Futeran lands with a nice body punch.
Futeran uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Futeran tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
And Bravo tries to counter it with a takedown but Futeran pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Bravo slips under a jab.
Bravo drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Futeran defends it well.
Futeran throws an off balance right hand

and Bravo counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bravo tries to free his leg and advance position but Futeran is retaining full guard.
Futeran managing to control the position.
Bravo throwing strikes from guard but Futeran blocks nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bravo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Futeran is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bravo, into his guard.


Futeran got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bravo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Futeran has managed to get both his arms back between Bravo's legs - danger averted.
Bravo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Futeran is one step ahead there.
Bravo keeping moving, preventing Futeran from controlling successfully.
Bravo is trying to keep Futeran in close.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Futeran got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bravo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Futeran has managed to get both his arms back between Bravo's legs - danger averted.
Futeran has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Futeran lands a couple of elbows.
Futeran connects with a couple of short punches.
Futeran scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bravo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Futeran working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Bravo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Futeran's guard.

Futeran utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Futeran lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Futeran tries to free his leg and advance position but Bravo is retaining full guard.
Futeran postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Futeran's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bravo working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Futeran has passed into half guard!
Bravo is looking to improve his position.
Futeran scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Bravo looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Bravo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bravo wants to get back to full guard.
Bravo is staying active underneath Futeran, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bravo moves into full guard.
Futeran stopping the sweep attempt from Bravo.
Futeran postures up and lands a big shot to Bravo's brow.
Futeran pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bravo is keeping the position for now.
Bravo has momentary wrist control but Futeran slips an elbow through the middle.

Bravo is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Futeran dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Futeran scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Futeran misses with a straight right.
And Bravo tries to counter it with a takedown but Futeran pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Bravo moves forwards but Futeran connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Futeran connects with a nice looking jab.
Bravo is still on wobbly legs! Can Futeran finish him?

Futeran gets a double leg takedown into Bravo's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Futeran postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Futeran arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Bravo's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Joseph Futeran!
After winning the bout, Joseph Futeran thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
