PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scooter Bob (ranked 1948 p4p, 2813 weight class) and Abraham Durden (ranked 254 p4p, 336 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scooter Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Abraham Durden!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durden throws out a powerful jab.
Durden buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Bob misses with a body shot.
Bob misses with a series of wild punches.
Bob takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Durden throws a shot from downtown. Bob moves away and avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bob throws an off balance right hand
and Durden counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bob throws out a loose jab but Durden uses good head movement to avoid it.
Durden let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Bob walks into a stiff left hand from Durden.

Durden is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bob throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A nice side step and Durden releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

and Durden counters with a nice low kick that buckles Bob's knee momentarily.

A looping hook to the body misses from Bob. Durden does a little dance to reset his feet.

Bob tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Durden was well out of range. Poor timing from Bob.
Bob throws a shot from downtown. Durden moves away and avoids it.
A little jabbing left from Durden on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Bob's jab looks to have found its range, popping Durden under the eye.

Durden throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bob sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bob misses with a leg kick
and Durden counters with a slapping leg kick.
Durden throws a chopping leg kick but Bob manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Durden scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Bob fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Durden looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bob throws a head kick that misses.
Durden lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bob misses with an uppercut.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

It looked like Bob wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Durden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Durden's corner calls for a 1-2. Durden obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Durden connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Bob takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Durden bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bob's head backwards.
Bob is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Bob steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Durden. That one must have hurt.
Durden cracks a nice hook into Bob's ribs.
Bob lands with a hook. Durden tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Bob sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Durden throws a nice outside leg kick.

Durden uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bob.
Bob backing away here, and Durden unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Durden lands with an uppercut that bounces Bob off the cage and back into range.
Durden has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Durden there as he acknowledges the shot.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Durden dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Bob. That did some damage!

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Bob might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Durden will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Abraham Durden is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bob throws a hook to the side of Durden's head but Durden sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Abraham Durden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Durden has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
