PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wulfgang Bleak (ranked 1713 p4p, 1765 weight class) and Albert Pulkkinen (ranked 39 p4p, 40 weight class). Bleak comes to the cage accompanied by Du Hast - Rammstein. Wulfgang Bleak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wulfgang Bleak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Albert Pulkkinen!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bleak blocks a head kick by Pulkkinen.
Bleak tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pulkkinen was well out of range. Poor timing from Bleak.
Pulkkinen throws a counter combo.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bleak is defended easily by Pulkkinen.
Bleak throws a right hand that misses
enabling Pulkkinen to counter with a crisp jab.
Pulkkinen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bleak definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Bleak shoots for a double leg takedown but Pulkkinen sprawls well. He's pushed Bleak's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pulkkinen throws a head kick but Bleak moves out of range.
Pulkkinen getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bleak tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pulkkinen swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wulfgang Bleak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bleak misses with a takedown attempt - Pulkkinen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pulkkinen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bleak.
Bleak fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pulkkinen manages to avoid it.

Pulkkinen scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Bleak is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pulkkinen attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

and Bleak counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pulkkinen!
Pulkkinen tries to buck Bleak off but Bleak is having none of it.

Pulkkinen is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bleak connects with a decent elbow.

Bleak misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Pulkkinen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pulkkinen is looking to control Bleak's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pulkkinen avoid being mounted?
Bleak thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pulkkinen's head.
Bleak sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pulkkinen defending well though.
Bleak thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pulkkinen is controlling Bleak's trapped leg to prevent Bleak from advancing to side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bleak won't allow Pulkkinen to get back to his feet.

Pulkkinen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Bleak with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bleak is working Pulkkinen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Pulkkinen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bleak is controlling him.
Bleak wants to pass the guard but Pulkkinen is keeping the position.
Bleak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bleak working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Pulkkinen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bleak stands up out of Pulkkinen's guard for a moment - Pulkkinen manages to land a nice upkick.
Pulkkinen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Pulkkinen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bleak tries to get to full guard but Pulkkinen has control of the leg.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pulkkinen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Bleak can't keep his opponent in guard - Pulkkinen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bleak is refusing to be controlled, as Pulkkinen sits in half guard.
Pulkkinen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Pulkkinen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bleak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Albert Pulkkinen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Pulkkinen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Bleak shoots in but no luck this time.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bleak.
Pulkkinen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Bleak on the side of the head.
Pulkkinen pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bleak is out of range and Pulkkinen settles back down.
Bleak throws a jab when Pulkkinen was well out of range.
Albert Pulkkinen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bleak fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Pulkkinen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bleak circles away quickly and effectively.
Bleak attempts a counter takedown but Pulkkinen avoids it well and moves away.
Bleak shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pulkkinen as he jumps to the side.
Pulkkinen appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Bleak goes for a double leg but Pulkkinen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pulkkinen continues to drive forward.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pulkkinen is positioning himself well to prevent Bleak advancing to mount.

Pulkkinen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

My spies in Deep waters inform me that Pulkkinen has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Pulkkinen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bleak avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Pulkkinen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Wulfgang Bleak overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bleak working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pulkkinen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pulkkinen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bleak is desperately trying to improve his position but Pulkkinen has a good base and remains in mount.
Pulkkinen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Albert Pulkkinen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Pulkkinen dances in with a quick combination. Bleak is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Pulkkinen snaps Bleak's head back. Bleak stumbles backwards against the cage. Pulkkinen steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Bleak's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Bleak just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Albert Pulkkinen!
Albert Pulkkinen thanked the fans post fight for their support.
In defeat, Wulfgang Bleak stepped up to the mic, saying 'I don't mind the pain, it helps remember the lesson. Great job by my opponent, he earned it. But I will be back!'.
