PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Qing Wu (ranked 3724 p4p, 2244 weight class) and Lucas Maia (ranked 462 p4p, 309 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Qing Wu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucas Maia!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wu scores with a hook.

Maia darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.
Maia is looking to take a break and control but Wu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wu is positioning himself well to prevent Maia advancing to mount.
Maia slows the pace down in half guard.
Wu trying to control here.
Wu moves into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Maia looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maia looking to pass the guard.
Wu knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maia on the ground.
Wu pulls Maia in close to prevent any damage.
Wu looking for a sweep. Not yet Wu, not yet.
Maia pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wu is keeping the position for now.
Maia postures up.
Wu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Wu tries to get out of the position.
Maia trying to control but Wu is working from the bottom.

Maia wants to pass the guard but Wu is keeping the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maia tries to free his leg and advance position but Wu is retaining full guard.
Maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Maia wants to control from the top but Wu keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Good shot there by Wu.
Wu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Maia shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maia passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Wu is trying to improve his position.
Maia trying to control the position but Wu is working away.

Maia tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wu gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Wu definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Wu is squirming around, avoiding Maia's attempts to control the action.
Maia takes Wu's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Wu is in trouble.
Will Maia go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Wu just trying to survive but Maia is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Maia working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Wu is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Maia has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Wu taps out!
