Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nethyn Valno (ranked 1904 p4p, 1824 weight class) and Thiago Araujo (ranked 265 p4p, 260 weight class). Valno kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Blue Ice. Nethyn Valno has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nethyn Valno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Araujo!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Steve Erwin and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Araujo shoots for a double leg takedown but Valno sprawls well. He's pushed Araujo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Araujo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Valno kicks Araujo off and gets back to his feet.
Araujo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Valno sneaks out the side door and pushes Araujo away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Valno wants to slow Araujo down by chopping away at his legs.
Araujo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Valno.
Araujo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Valno sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Araujo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Valno is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Araujo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Valno has escaped the position, nice work there.
Araujo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Araujo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Araujo swings around for an armbar but Valno sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Araujo's guard.
Valno has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Araujo throws his legs up looking for a submission but Valno uses it to pass to side control.
Valno will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Valno avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Araujo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valno doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valno manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Araujo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Valno is aware though and is defending well.

That was a close round but I would say that Nethyn Valno will probably get the nod.

Araujo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Valno's guard.

Valno has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Araujo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Araujo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Valno, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
