PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ziggy Stardust (ranked 2164 p4p, 2111 weight class) and Mattias Lundgren (ranked 286 p4p, 284 weight class). Stardust kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Starman. Mattias Lundgren struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ziggy Stardust!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mattias Lundgren!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stardust throws a leg kick that is checked

and Lundgren decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stardust's guard.
Lundgren in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stardust can't keep his opponent in guard - Lundgren advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Lundgren wants to work for an arm triangle but Stardust is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've been hearing good reports from Stardust's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Stardust gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lundgren drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stardust looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stardust looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stardust!

Lundgren manages to work his way to half guard, despite Stardust's best efforts.

Stardust wants to stand but Lundgren has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Lundgren is working an open guard so Stardust takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Stardust dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lundgren. That did some damage!

Stardust displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lundgren.

Lundgren has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Lundgren shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stardust sprawls well. Stardust wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lundgren gets slowly back to his feet.

Stardust stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stardust wants it to stay on the feet.
Ziggy Stardust has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mattias Lundgren.
Lundgren tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lundgren misses with a takedown attempt - Stardust sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Stardust throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lundgren takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Lundgren ducks under a wild hook from Stardust.
Lundgren wants to clinch.
Stardust tried to counter with a leg kick but Lundgren avoided it.

A nice leg kick from Stardust, right into the meat of the thigh.
Stardust scoring well with a low kick there.
Stardust's corner calls for a 1-2. Stardust obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Lundgren darts in looking for a takedown but Stardust gets double underhooks and turns Lundgren into the cage.
A nice inside leg kick there by Stardust. That's going to slow Lundgren down.
Nice jab there from Stardust.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ziggy Stardust is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lundgren has his takedown stuffed

and Stardust counters with a head kick that drops Lundgren to the mat! Lundgren scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Lundgren is rocked!
Ziggy Stardust seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lundgren walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Stardust! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!
