Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Wessel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tyler Vassell!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wessel blocks a head kick by Vassell.
Wessel tries to clinch up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Vassell!
Vassell thows a body shot but no joy.
Vassell walks forward, straight into a front kick from Wessel.
Vassell shoots in looking for a takedown. Wessel tries to sprawl out of it but Vassell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wessel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A head kick lands from Wessel that sends Vassell to the canvas. Vassell tries to scramble back to his feet but Wessel brings him back down into side control.
It looks like Tyler Vassell has been cut.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wessel stands up and beckons Vassell to his feet.
Vassell misses with a hook.
Vassell misses the shot to the body.
A punch combination from Vassell misses.
Wessel bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Vassell looks gassed!
Wessel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wessel trying to control from half guard but Vassell is working away.
Wessel uses his free foot to push down on Vassell's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Vassell.
Wessel looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Wessel prevents Vassell from getting the reversal.
Wessel unloading with bombs!
Wessel lands a heavy elbow.
Wessel landing strikes from the mount and Vassell is in trouble!
Vassell is rocked!
Vassell is desperately trying to improve his position but Wessel has a good base and remains in mount.
Vassell is still in real trouble! Can Wessel finish him?
BOOM! Wessel connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Vassell really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Wessel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Wessel loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Vassell scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Wessel land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Wessel stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eric Wessel!
