Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hyseon Whang (ranked 3910 p4p, 4766 weight class) and Ross Nyland (ranked 490 p4p, 548 weight class). Ross Nyland will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hyseon Whang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ross Nyland! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whang looking to score a takedown here. Nyland is defending well but Whang drives through and ends up in Nyland's guard. Nyland working a defensive guard here.
Whang thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Whang wants to pass the guard but Nyland is keeping the position. Whang could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Nyland escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Whang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Whang drops back looking for a leg! Nyland is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nyland manages to kick Whang off! Whang jumps back into Nyland's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whang tries to free his leg and advance position but Nyland is retaining full guard. Nyland keeping moving, preventing Whang from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whang thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Nyland trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Nyland really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Whang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nyland working a defensive guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Nyland is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Whang has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Nyland looking for a sweep. Not yet Nyland, not yet. Whang wants to control from the top but Nyland keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nyland shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Whang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nyland pulls his head out easily. Nyland wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whang keeps working. Nyland looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. The fighters are battling for position here. Whang manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nyland wants to stand but Whang has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Whang wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Whang has his foot on Nyland's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nyland works his way back into a safe position though. Whang looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Whang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nyland doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nyland manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Whang trying to control the position.
Nyland got a little sloppy there for a moment and Whang has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nyland has managed to get both his arms back between Whang's legs - danger averted.

Nyland passes into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Whang trying to hold on to Nyland's head to control him but Nyland postures up.

Hyseon Whang dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Nyland moves in looking to clinch but Whang pushes him off. Whang appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Whang thuds a left hand into Nyland's body. Whang takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Ross Nyland seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nyland shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Whang is staying active underneath Nyland, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Whang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Whang looking for submissions off his back. Hyseon Whang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whang is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whang is doing well to control the position and prevent Nyland from advancing to side control. Nyland is trying to work for a kimura but Whang is defending well.
Nyland passes to full mount! Nyland can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Whang is looking to escape. Whang wants to hold on but Nyland pushes him away. Whang tries to reverse the position but Nyland maintains control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whang is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Whang regains half guard. Nyland wants to free his trapped foot but Whang is holding on for dear life with his legs. Whang looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Whang gets full guard. Whang looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nyland is looking to advance position but Whang has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Nyland is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whang sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Whang looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Whang is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Nyland to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Nyland shrugs it off. Nyland felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Whang working for a guillotine from mount but Nyland is in no mood to give up. Whang can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Nyland is looking to escape. Whang looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Whang prevents Nyland from getting the reversal. Whang looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Whang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nyland can do to turn this around? Whang looking to control but Nyland is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nyland defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Whang. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Hyseon Whang dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round! Nyland blocks a jab. The fighters circling - Whang throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Nyland throws a head kick that misses. Nyland fails in his attempt to clinch. Nyland walks into a jab. Whang gets caught napping as Nyland dives in and scores a takedown. Whang manages to retain guard. Whang trying to control the position.
Whang is looking for a triangle but Nyland pushes his legs off easily.
