Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Messervey (ranked 6532 p4p, 3656 weight class) and Miguel Santos (ranked 640 p4p, 454 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jack Messervey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miguel Santos! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos shoots in and drives through. Messervey sprawls well. No luck with that takedown attempt from Santos. Messervey swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Santos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Messervey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Messervey gets the takedown into side control. Santos wants to get back to his feet but Messervey is dominant here and he's now got Santos's back! Messervey seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Messervey connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Santos to escape the position.

Santos is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Messervey gets his way!

Messervey lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Santos wants to control his opponent's hands but Messervey gets his hands free. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Santos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Messervey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Messervey stuffs the takedown attempt from Santos. Santos gets slowly back to his feet. Jack Messervey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miguel Santos. Messervey throws a right hand that Santos ducks under and follows up with a left that Santos also avoids with ease. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Messervey looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Messervey forces his way into half guard. Messervey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santos is just riding it out for now. Messervey eventually gives up the hold.

Santos is controlling Messervey's position as best he can from this difficult position. Messervey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Santos controlling the position well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Messervey lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Messervey trying to control from half guard but Santos is working away. Santos pushes Messervey off looking to stand but Messervey dives back in and keeps control.
Messervey is trying to control. Santos wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Santos wants to get back to full guard. Messervey looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos is looking to get back to is feet but Messervey passes into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Santos is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on Santos's face as Messervey controls the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Messervey blocks a head kick by Santos.
Messervey thinks about countering with a head kick. The fight moves into the clinch position. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Messervey turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Messervey manages to end up in side control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Messervey trying to control the position but Santos is working away. Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Messervey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Santos is trying to control Messervey's posture but Messervey avoids it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Messervey dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round! Messervey tries to bum rush Santos with a series of wild strikes but Santos uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Messervey fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Santos to the ground. Messervey is now in Santos's guard. Santos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Messervey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Messervey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Messervey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Messervey content to stall in guard here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Messervey is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Messervey trying to control from half guard but Santos is working away. Messervey performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Santos wants to improve his position but Messervey is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Messervey working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Santos is defending against the submission attempts here by Messervey.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos is staying active underneath Messervey, who seems content to just control the action from this position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Santos trying to control but Messervey postures up.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Messervey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Santos swats him away and circles back towards the center. Messervey misses with a low kick.
Messervey throws a leg kick but Santos sees it coming and checks it nicely. Santos changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Messervey takes the fight into the clinch. Messervey keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Santos's efforts to push away. Messervey manages to break the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santos scores with a one two! Messervey had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Santos clinches up against the cage. Messervey stalling in the clinch but Santos improves position. Messervey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Santos regains guard immediately. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santos can do anything to dispel that myth. Messervey drops back looking for a leg! Santos is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Santos manages to kick Messervey off! Messervey jumps back into Santos's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Messervey is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that's the end of the fight! Jack Messervey showed his dominance in that final round. Well Messervey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
