PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Guy Bernier (ranked 1599 p4p, 1889 weight class) and Morgan Malig (ranked 91 p4p, 108 weight class). Bernier comes to the cage accompanied by Stranglehold/ Ted Nugent. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malig drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bernier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bernier looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Malig passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Malig frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bernier is trying desperately to improve position.

Bernier sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Malig wants to take a breather but Bernier is having none of it.

Malig wants to work for an arm triangle but Bernier is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Let's hope that Malig has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Malig wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bernier keeps working.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bernier is looking for a sweep.
Bernier is not content to let Malig control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Malig working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Malig closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bernier did well to prevent Malig getting side control.

Malig jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bernier is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bernier and Malig has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Malig makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Malig.

Bernier stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Malig has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Bernier manages to get his head free but now Malig has transitioned to an armbar! Bernier grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Malig! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

A relieved looking Morgan Malig thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
