PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sao Alela (ranked 436 p4p, 1255 weight class) and Rico Cole (ranked 61 p4p, 164 weight class). Alela comes to the cage accompanied by Cryin' Like a Bitch. Cole has chosen Gerardo's Rico Suave as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sao Alela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Cole!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alela lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cole's sensitive parts.
Decent striking displayed by Alela there.
Alela throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cole now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Alela throws a combination. Cole tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Alela lands a leg kick that knocks Cole off balance momentarily.
Cole walks into a left hand.
Alela throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
It seemed like Cole was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Alela connects with a body shot that sends Cole's belly button to the back.
Alela swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Alela.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alela not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Alela forces his way into half guard.
Cole wants to get back to full guard.
Cole is staying active underneath Alela, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cole is looking for a sweep. Alela is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Alela is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Alela is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Alela wants to take a breather but Cole is having none of it.

Alela slips a nice elbow through Cole's hands, connecting with Cole's forehead.

Rico Cole is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Alela lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Alela throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cole sees it coming and avoids it easily.
It seemed like Cole was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Alela fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cole on the side of the head.
Alela misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alela lands with a thumping leg kick.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Alela, as that shot connected.
Alela dips to his left and cracks Cole with an uppercut!
Sao Alela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alela throws a head kick but Cole moves out of range.
Alela works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Alela scores with a head kick. Cole tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sao Alela dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Alela bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cole is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Alela's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Alela is looking for a kimura here.
Alela wants to pass to mount but Cole is defending the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alela wants to take a breather but Cole is having none of it.
Sao Alela overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alela is just content to waste time from the top position. Cole takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Alela passes Cole's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alela is looking to stall here but Cole recovers full guard.
Alela sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cole's guard.

Alela seems to be looking for submissions.
Alela winds up and cracks Cole with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Alela is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cole can do to turn this around?

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alela's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alela scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cole doesn't seem bothered though.
A jab from Alela finds it's way through Cole's defenses.
Alela goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Alela feints and then cracks Cole's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cole down.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cole takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Cole takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Cole walks into a jab.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sao Alela dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Alela fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cole checks it well.
As Alela backs off Cole throws a huge counter combo but Alela manages to avoid it all.
Cole tries to move into range but Alela moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Alela misses with a looping left.
Cole is looking for the big counter here.
Alela tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cole sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alela somewhat.

Alela postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cole on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Cole is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alela's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alela's back!
Alela is trying to get back to his feet but Cole has full control of the position and if anything, Alela has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Cole has got his arm under Alela's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Alela has spun round into Cole's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Rico Cole has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sao Alela is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cole manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alela manages to get himself to full guard.

Cole stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alela swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cole pushing down on Alela's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cole is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Alela reverses the position - he's now on top in Cole's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alela wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sao Alela showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Alela has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
