Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frankie Venegas !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Deacon Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slaughter lands a really nice looking cross but Venegas seems unphased.
Nice body punch from Slaughter.
Venegas takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Venegas takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Slaughter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Slaughter throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Venegas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Slaughter's guard.

Slaughter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Slaughter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Venegas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Venegas working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Venegas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Venegas postures up.
Slaughter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Venegas haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Slaughter looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Venegas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Venegas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Slaughter isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Venegas stacks Slaughter on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Venegas !

Venegas in side control lands a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Venegas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Slaughter is rocked!

Slaughter is still in real trouble! Can Venegas finish him?
A big shot lands for Venegas ! That's hurt Slaughter! Will he recover? Venegas fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frankie Venegas !
After winning the bout, Frankie Venegas thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
