PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Catchy Cartwright (ranked 1232 p4p, 1237 weight class) and Jay Reepo (ranked 138 p4p, 139 weight class). Cartwright's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Spiders. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jay Reepo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Catchy Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jay Reepo!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reepo fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cartwright checks it well.
Cartwright uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Reepo.
Cartwright tries to counter with a takedown but Reepo is quick to defend against it.
Reepo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Reepo connects with a single shot there.
Reepo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Reepo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jay Reepo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reepo loads up on a big right hand but Cartwright slips the punch.

Cartwright drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Cartwright has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cartwright connects with a nice short shot to Reepo's temple.
Reepo has his hands clasped together around Cartwright's back. He's all about the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reepo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cartwright defends it easily.

The crowd cheers as Reepo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cartwright doesn't seem phased though.

That kick from Reepo tenderised Cartwright's leg. Cartwright is trying to keep his angry face on.
Reepo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cartwright.
Cartwright chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Reepo can pounce on him.

Cartwright is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Reepo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cartwright shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cartwright on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Reepo connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cartwright momentarily.
Cartwright doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Cartwright shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Reepo is trying to defend but Cartwright finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cartwright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Reepo is on top in guard.

Catchy Cartwright overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cartwright has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Reepo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cartwright.

Reepo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Reepo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reepo wants to stand but Cartwright is controlling his arm.

Reepo is looking for the choke from the back position but Cartwright is controlling his hands well.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Reepo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Jay Reepo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Reepo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Cartwright postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Reepo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cartwright, into his guard.

Reepo wants to control from the top but Cartwright keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cartwright working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reepo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reepo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cartwright is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Reepo wants to finish this one by submission but Cartwright is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reepo.

Cartwright attempts a counter takedown but Reepo avoids it well and moves away.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cartwright tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Reepo defends well and Cartwright ends up having to push Reepo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay Reepo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Reepo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
