Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Velasquez (ranked 4641 p4p, 6241 weight class) and Paramat Pongsak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitor Velasquez could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Paramat Pongsak's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vitor Velasquez !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paramat Pongsak!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez gets the takedown into side control.
Velasquez in side control, just content to control the action for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pongsak is trying to buck Velasquez off.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Velasquez stands up and beckons Pongsak to his feet.
Velasquez moves out of range as Pongsak throws a body kick.
Velasquez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Velasquez blocks a head kick by Pongsak.
Velasquez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pongsak paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Velasquez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Velasquez decides to return to a standing position.
Pongsak looks to land a combination but Velasquez avoids it well.

Pongsak gets caught napping as Velasquez dives in and scores a takedown. Pongsak manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez passes into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pongsak is trying to stand up here but Velasquez is controlling him well.

Velasquez is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Pongsak to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Velasquez is pushing down on Pongsak's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pongsak is fighting to maintain full guard but Velasquez has managed to sneak the leg through.
Velasquez is controlling the pace.
Pongsak has hold of Velasquez 's hands but Velasquez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Velasquez content to control rather than advance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Velasquez tries to clinch but Pongsak is having none of it.
Pongsak is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Some wild striking there from Pongsak.
Velasquez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Pongsak manages to circle out of the way.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Velasquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pongsak's head.

Velasquez wants to pass the guard but Pongsak is defending well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Velasquez in particular looking to stall.

Pongsak tries to kick Velasquez off but Velasquez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Pongsak is trying to control but can't.
Velasquez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Vitor Velasquez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Velasquez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Velasquez tries to advance to mount but can't.
Velasquez in side control, just content to control the action for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Velasquez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Velasquez throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Pongsak works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Velasquez wants to work for an arm triangle but Pongsak is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Pongsak shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Pongsak's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pongsak tries a head kick but it misses.
Paramat Pongsak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pongsak gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pongsak is looking to stand back up but Velasquez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pongsak.

Velasquez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Velasquez content just to control the position here.

Velasquez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pongsak tries to hold on but Velasquez postures up.

Velasquez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pongsak has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pongsak!
Velasquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Velasquez pulls Pongsak in close to prevent any damage.
Paramat Pongsak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Velasquez 's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Pongsak avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Velasquez is pulling down on Pongsak's head. It's preventing any offense from Pongsak, at least for the moment.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Velasquez .
Velasquez will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Velasquez has his hands on Pongsak's head, controlling the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Pongsak throws a push kick but Velasquez slaps the foot to one side.

Velasquez lands a big head kick that sends Pongsak tumbling to the mat! Velasquez takes a step backwards and waves Pongsak back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Pongsak is rocked!

It looks like Paramat Pongsak has been cut.
Pongsak looks for the body kick but Velasquez saw that one coming.
Velasquez seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Pongsak is still on wobbly legs! Can Velasquez finish him?
Pongsak tries a head kick but it misses.

Velasquez rushes Pongsak and presses him up against the cage.
Pongsak goes for a takedown in the clinch but Velasquez prevents it.
Pongsak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Pongsak is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Pongsak seems to have recovered his senses.

Velasquez gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Velasquez with the ground and pound but Pongsak uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Pongsak looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velasquez throwing strikes from guard but Pongsak blocks nicely.
Velasquez lands a couple of elbows.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velasquez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Vitor Velasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Velasquez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
