Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Thomas Babcock (ranked 1764 p4p, 2563 weight class) and Master Bates (ranked 246 p4p, 329 weight class). Babcock comes to the cage accompanied by SS00999. Master Bates is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jesse Thomas Babcock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Master Bates! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bates takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Babcock, as that shot connected.
Babcock digs a good body shot into Bates's ribs. Babcock jabs at Bates's body. Babcock lands a jab-cross combination. Babcock dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Babcock scores with a body shot.
Babcock definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Babcock's corner calls for a 1-2. Babcock obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Babcock lunges at Bates with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Bates's hand. Babcock is looking to wear down Bates with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Babcock lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Babcock dives in and scores a takedown into Bates's guard. Bates keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully. Babcock throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bates works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Bates escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Babcock gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bates keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully. Babcock postures up.
Babcock sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bates's guard. Babcock slips a nice elbow through Bates's hands, connecting with Bates's forehead. Bates is trying to get back to full guard. Babcock not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock prevents Bates from improving his position. Babcock lands strikes from half guard. Bates taking some punishment here, with Babcock in his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bates is refusing to be controlled, as Babcock sits in half guard. Babcock is looking to advance position but Bates won't allow it. Babcock is looking to take a break and control but Bates is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Babcock working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Bates won't allow Babcock to pass to mount. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Babcock connects with a nice short shot to Bates's temple. Bates trying to control from the bottom.

Babcock working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Bates is staying active underneath Babcock, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Babcock throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Babcock is nestled in close to Bates, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Babcock wants to pass the guard but Bates is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Babcock thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Bates with the active half guard here but Babcock passes nicely into side control. Babcock lands an elbow. Bates is trying to buck Babcock off. Babcock scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Bates to see if he's OK. Bates is trying to escape the position but Babcock is controlling the position. Babcock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bates keeps working. Babcock in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jesse Thomas Babcock dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Nice takedown defense from Babcock. No joy for Bates on that attempt. Babcock seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Jesse Thomas Babcock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Babcock cracks Bates with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Babcock throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Babcock wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Babcock lands a jab to the nose. Jesse Thomas Babcock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Babcock cracks Bates with a right hand to the side of the head. Danga de danga de dang - Babcock scores with a four punch combination! Babcock scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
This has been an exciting period of action! Babcock closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bates did well to prevent Babcock getting side control. Babcock working over Bates with some ground and pound. Bates looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Bates flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Babcock is keen to just control but Bates is a slippery customer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bates is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Babcock pulls his head out easily. Babcock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bates is pressing down on Babcock's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Bates throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Bates will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Babcock passes into half guard. Nice strikes from Babcock there. Bates wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock lands with a punch from half guard. Babcock working the head and body with strikes. Babcock scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Bates wants to improve his position but Babcock is controlling well.
Babcock throwing shots but Bates is blocking nicely. Babcock wants to free his trapped foot but Bates is holding on for dear life with his legs. Bates is trying to maintain the position but Babcock is very close to passing his half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Babcock connects with a nice short shot to Bates's temple.

Bates manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Babcock is refusing to be controlled, as Bates sits in half guard. Babcock trying to control here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Babcock is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Babcock with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Bates is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Babcock content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Babcock is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bates can do to turn this around? Babcock lying in Bates's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Bates decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Babcock taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
