PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mac Anudo (ranked 1246 p4p, 2488 weight class) and Lucas Maia (ranked 188 p4p, 321 weight class). Mac Anudo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Mac Anudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucas Maia!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anudo gets caught flat footed, as Maia shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Maia looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Maia wants to control from the top but Anudo keeps moving.
Maia must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Maia trying to move into half guard but instead Anudo has managed to sweep!

Anudo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Anudo scoring with punches to the head and body.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anudo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Maia has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Anudo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maia.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Anudo stands up out of the half guard.

Anudo fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Anudo scores with the left hand. Maia knows he should have avoided that one.
Anudo lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Lucas Maia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maia looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Anudo is fending him off so far but Maia persists. Nope, Anudo circles away and we're back to standing.
Anudo was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Anudo stuffs the takedown attempt from Maia. Maia gets slowly back to his feet.
Anudo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Maia.
Some bone on bone action there as Maia checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Anudo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maia to the ground. Anudo is now in Maia's guard.
Anudo is standing up over Maia. Maia looks to escape but Anudo dives into side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Anudo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Anudo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Maia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Anudo off and has taken his back!

Anudo is keeping busy.
Maia is trying to stick to Anudo's back but Anudo is turning into Maia. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Maia's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Anudo.
Maia is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Maia gets tackled into the cage by Anudo. Anudo maintains the clinch.

Maia jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Anudo walks away with a smile on his face. Maia gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

It looks like Lucas Maia has been cut.
Maia throws a sloppy head kick and Anudo moves out of range easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
