Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michal Materlak (ranked 1038 p4p, 990 weight class) and Nori Voluspa (ranked 152 p4p, 147 weight class). Materlak comes to the cage accompanied by Marzenia. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michal Materlak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nori Voluspa!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voluspa steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Materlak.

Voluspa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Materlak quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Voluspa is looking to take a break and control but Materlak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
My spies in The Jungle Room inform me that Voluspa has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Voluspa lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Voluspa might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Materlak haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Voluspa unloads with some shots from mount but Materlak bucks and avoids them well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Voluspa goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Materlak is on top in guard.
Voluspa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Materlak's guard.

Voluspa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Materlak's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Voluspa chips away with some ground and pound.
Materlak is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Materlak is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Voluspa will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Voluspa manages to work his way to half guard, despite Materlak's best efforts.
Well, if Materlak is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Materlak uses his free foot to push down on Voluspa's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Voluspa.

Materlak decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Voluspa fails with an attempt to clinch.
Materlak was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Voluspa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Materlak to the mat! Materlak manages to get full guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nori Voluspa dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Nori Voluspa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Voluspa shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Materlak pinned against the cage. Materlak gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Michal Materlak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nori Voluspa.

Voluspa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Materlak's waist but Materlak gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Voluspa off to one side.

Voluspa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Materlak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Michal Materlak.
