PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim McBride (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaime Sosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim McBride!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jaime Sosa!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McBride keeps the fight on the outside.
McBride avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sosa wants to clinch.
Sosa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sosa is looking to clinch but McBride is avoiding it.
McBride throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sosa is looking to clinch but McBride is avoiding it.

McBride clinches up against the cage.

Sosa pulls guard.

Sosa is looking for a triangle but McBride pushes his legs off easily.
McBride sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McBride is looking to stand up but Sosa won't let him.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells McBride's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sosa had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McBride is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sosa Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McBride's back instead.
Sosa somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

Sosa is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. McBride knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften McBride for a finish.

Sosa gets his hands free as McBride looks to control.
Sosa struggling to land strikes to the head as McBride covers up.
McBride rolls, trying to escape but Sosa keeps control of the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
McBride is working hard here to advance position.
McBride just looking to survive in the bad position.

Sosa is persistently looking for the submission but McBride is defending it well.
Sosa looks gassed!
McBride has hold of Sosa's arm. He needs to escape this position sooner or later but for now he's happy enough to control the position and prevent the submission attempts.

Sosa is looking for the choke from the back position but McBride is controlling his hands well.

McBride really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Sosa's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

McBride rolls, trying to escape but Sosa keeps control of the position.

Sosa patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
McBride tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

McBride bucks up and throws Sosa to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Sosa tries to keep at a distance but McBride has taken the fight into the clinch.

McBride breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sosa clinches but McBride breaks the clinch

and McBride counters by moving into the clinch.

McBride gets control of Sosa's arms and successfully pulls guard. McBride will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
McBride looking for a sweep. Not yet McBride, not yet.

Sosa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McBride is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McBride wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
McBride utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McBride is controlling Sosa's posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sosa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sosa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
McBride is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McBride preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McBride wants to sweep here but Sosa controlling him for the moment.

Sosa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sosa wants to control from the top but McBride keeps moving.
Sosa wants to pass the guard but McBride is keeping the position.
McBride striking off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sosa wants to clinch up but McBride keeps it at a distance.

McBride shoots in and bounces Sosa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim McBride will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sosa looks to clinch
and McBride counters with a slapping leg kick.

and McBride counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McBride is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
McBride lands strikes from half guard.
McBride is nestled in close to Sosa, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Sosa actively working from the bottom here.

McBride decides to stand and escape the position.
McBride lands a nice shot to the body.

McBride drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sosa tries to buck McBride off but McBride is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McBride advances nicely into full mount.

McBride controlling from mount.
Sosa tries to hold on but McBride postures up.
Sosa is wriggling around trying to escape.
McBride takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sosa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sosa is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McBride controlling from the full mount.
Sosa wants to control but McBride is having none of it.
Sosa keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
McBride controlling from mount.
McBride putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Sosa is trying to escape the mount.
McBride in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

McBride has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Sosa is forced to tap!
