Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Lins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erico Munhoz! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Munhoz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lins but Lins pushes him off and we're back to square one. Munhoz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Munhoz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lins has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Munhoz but great work by Lins. Munhoz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Munhoz is looking to reverse the position. Lins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Munhoz keeps working. Lins stands up and beckons Munhoz to his feet. Munhoz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Lins takes a swing at Munhoz's ribcage but misses. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Munhoz. Julio Lins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erico Munhoz. Munhoz looks gassed! Lins closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lins lands in his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lins wants to pass the guard but Munhoz is keeping the position. Lins wants to control from the top but Munhoz keeps moving. Munhoz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Munhoz can't keep his opponent in guard - Lins advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Lins is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Munhoz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Lins winds up and cracks Munhoz with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Munhoz is trying to maintain the position but Lins is very close to passing his half guard. Munhoz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Lins lands strikes from half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lins in particular looking to stall. Lins is keen to just control but Munhoz is a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lins is pressing down on Munhoz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Munhoz is holding on for now. Lins passes the guard and advances to mount! Munhoz tries to control the position but Lins now has his back.

Lins wants to take a breather but Munhoz manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Lins. Munhoz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Lins is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julio Lins dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Munhoz with a poor takedown and Lins counters with a nice double leg into guard. Lins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Munhoz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lins has picked Munhoz up and slammed him! Munhoz can't keep hold of the triangle and Lins manages to pass to side control! Munhoz is trying to get back to half guard. Lins landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Munhoz tries to buck Lins off but Lins is having none of it. Lins stands up and beckons Munhoz to his feet. Lins closes the distance and clinches. The is referee keeping an eye on Lins - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Munhoz jumps guard but Lins stands there with Munhoz around his waist. Munhoz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Munhoz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lins circles away. Munhoz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Julio Lins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lins looking to pass the guard. Munhoz has his foot on Lins's thigh. Lins is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Munhoz is just riding it out for now. Lins eventually gives up the hold.

Lins tries to clinch but Munhoz moves out of range. Lins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Munhoz swats him away and circles back towards the center. Lins shoots in for a double leg but Munhoz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Munhoz is looking to clinch but Lins is avoiding it.
Munhoz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Lins isn't going anywhere. Munhoz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Munhoz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The ground and pound from Munhoz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Munhoz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lins. Munhoz with shots to the head and body - Lins looks very uncomfortable down there. Lins can't escape the position.
