PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between D.D Panda (ranked 3946 p4p, 5266 weight class) and Daniel Pawlikowski (ranked 483 p4p, 573 weight class). Daniel Pawlikowski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, D.D Panda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Pawlikowski! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Panda connects with a looping right hand.
Panda comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Panda forces Pawlikowski back against the cage and clinches. I was talking to Panda's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Pawlikowski has had enough of the clinch but Panda keeps him there for the moment. Pawlikowski tries to pull guard but Panda forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Pawlikowski working hard to break the clinch. Pawlikowski can't find room to land a body shot as Panda controls the action.
Panda ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Panda no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Pawlikowski wants to control from the top but Panda keeps moving. Panda looking for a guillotine here but Pawlikowski defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pawlikowski missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panda seems keen to control Pawlikowski's posture. Pawlikowski stands up and waves to Panda to follow him. Pawlikowski scores with a hook to the body. Panda takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Panda lands a nice shot to the body.
Pawlikowski moves into the clinch. Pawlikowski letting Panda take a breather here. Panda jumps into guard, dragging Pawlikowski to the mat.
Panda can't keep his opponent in guard - Pawlikowski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pawlikowski wants to stand but Panda has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Pawlikowski working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Panda's thigh. Panda counters though and makes it back to full guard. Pawlikowski gets to his feet - Panda follows without any prompting. Pawlikowski tries to clinch but Panda moves out of range. Panda drops down looking for a counter takedown but Pawlikowski sprawls and moves away. Panda closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pawlikowski's guard. Panda slips nicely into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pawlikowski trying to hold on to Panda's head to control him but Panda postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panda wants to free his trapped foot but Pawlikowski is holding on for dear life with his legs. Panda perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pawlikowski trying to hold on to Panda's head to control him but Panda postures up.
Panda is taking a breather. Pawlikowski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Pawlikowski trying to hold on to Panda's head to control him but Panda postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Pawlikowski wants to control the action here but instead Panda manages to pass to full mount! Panda content just to control the position here. Pawlikowski has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Pawlikowski is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Panda controlling from the full mount. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
D.D Panda dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Panda looks to land a combination. Pawlikowski sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Panda circles away from the clinch attempt.

Daniel Pawlikowski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sloppy strikes from Pawlikowski. Those never looked like landing. Panda moves away from the strike by Pawlikowski. Panda scores with a nice strike. Panda swats away the attempt to clinch by Pawlikowski. Pawlikowski tries to sprawl but Panda drives through with a takedown into half guard. Pawlikowski is looking for a sweep. Panda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pawlikowski slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Panda wants to pass the guard but Pawlikowski is keeping the position. Panda is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pawlikowski can do to turn this around? Pawlikowski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Panda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Panda tries to free his leg and advance position but Pawlikowski is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Pawlikowski is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Panda is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Panda has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Panda closes the distance and pushes Pawlikowski back into the cage. Pawlikowski is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Panda pulls guard effortlessly. Pawlikowski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panda swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pawlikowski trying to control the position from guard on top but Panda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panda utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Pawlikowski is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Pawlikowski throws a big right hand that misses. Pawlikowski throws a big right hand that misses. The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Panda fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Pawlikowski fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pawlikowski throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Pawlikowski tries to close the distance and clinch up but Panda swats him away and circles back towards the center. Panda tries to counter with a takedown but Pawlikowski is quick to defend against it. Pawlikowski wants to clinch but Panda slips to the side and Panda counters with a shoot takedown. Pawlikowski fights it but they end up in guard. Pawlikowski is trying to control the position but Panda postures up. Panda pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pawlikowski is keeping the position for now. Pawlikowski being controlled here, momentarily. Panda wants to pass the guard but Pawlikowski is keeping the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Panda is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
D.D Panda dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

D.D Panda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Pawlikowski. Panda decides to pull guard. Pawlikowski is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Panda has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Pawlikowski is looking to defend but Panda has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Pawlikowski! Panda pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Pawlikowski taps out and this one is all over!
