PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Ross (ranked 24965 p4p, 3831 weight class) and Diago Nunez (ranked 660 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rick Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Diago Nunez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Ross or perhaps it was just good defense by Nunez, which made it look bad.
Nunez misses with a series of wild punches.
Nunez stuffs the takedown.
Ross shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nunez defends it nicely.

Ross had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nunez defends it easily.
Nunez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ross. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ross lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ross throws a big right hand that misses.

Ross gets to his feet. Nunez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ross shoots in but Nunez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ross closes the distance looking to clinch

and Nunez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Nunez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ross has hold of Nunez's hands but Nunez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ross wants to get back to his feet.
Nunez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nunez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nunez is keen to just control but Ross is a slippery customer.
Ross wants to get back to his feet.
Ross is staying active underneath Nunez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ross swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Nunez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Nunez.
Ross is trying to keep Nunez in close.
Nunez throws an elbow that misses. Ross uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nunez's guard. Nice move by Ross!

Ross slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nunez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ross is looking to take a break and control but Nunez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lull in the action here as Ross stalls from top position.
Nunez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Ross creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Nunez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ross asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Ross remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nunez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nunez throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Nunez catches Ross with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Ross connects with a high kick.

It looks like Diago Nunez has been cut.
Nunez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ross tries to clinch but Nunez moves out of range.
Ross swings for the body but Nunez moves out of range.
Ross shoots in for a takedown but Nunez shows good takedown defense.
Nunez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ross. Ross circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Nunez lands a jab to Ross's midsection.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ross misses with a kick to the body.

so Nunez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ross is looking to stand back up but Nunez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Ross.

Nunez slows the pace down in half guard.
Nunez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Nunez moves into full mount! Ross won't be happy about that!
Nunez putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The referee warns Ross that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Nunez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Ross is rocked!

Nunez postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Ross bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Nunez and the fight is over!
