Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz is looking to clinch but Velasquez is avoiding it.
Ortiz tries to close the distance and clinch but Velasquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Ortiz stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Velasquez. The fight stays on the outside here - Ortiz looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ortiz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Velasquez swats him away and circles back towards the center. Velasquez misses with the combination.
Velasquez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ortiz to the mat! Ortiz manages to get full guard. Velasquez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Velasquez prevents Ortiz from getting back to his feet. Velasquez lands a couple of digs. Velasquez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Velasquez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Velasquez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Velasquez thows a big elbow that misses. Velasquez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ortiz wants to stand and escape but Velasquez is having none of it.

Velasquez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Velasquez showed some decent athleticism there. Velasquez uses his free foot to push down on Ortiz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ortiz. Ortiz is breathing heavily. Velasquez unloading with bombs! Ortiz in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Ortiz is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Velasquez get's back to his feet. Velasquez lands a front kick. Velasquez fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ortiz. Velasquez swats away the attempt to clinch by Ortiz. Velasquez throws a series of punches but Ortiz moves out of range. Velasquez fails to land the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez stalks Ortiz and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ortiz's face. Ortiz staggers backwards, shaken. Velasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ortiz pushes Velasquez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Velasquez throws a series of punches but Ortiz avoids them all with ease. Ortiz wants to clinch up but Velasquez keeps it at a distance. Ortiz tries to clinch but Velasquez is having none of it. Velasquez darts in and clinches Ortiz up against the cage. Ortiz managing to block the knees to the body from Velasquez.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Velasquez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ortiz works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Velasquez stops Ortiz from standing up. Velasquez content to stall in guard here. Ortiz wriggles free and stands up. Velasquez closes the distance and clinches. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ortiz tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Ortiz is pressed up against the cage. Velasquez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ortiz down to the mat. Ortiz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Anderson Ortiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JR Velasquez. Ortiz darts in trying to clinch and Velasquez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ortiz is trying to get back to his feet but Velasquez has full control of the position and if anything, Ortiz has just worked his way into a worse spot. JR Velasquez has got the better of the ground game so far. Velasquez trying to control. Ortiz is trying to shake Velasquez off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Velasquez won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.

Ortiz trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Velasquez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ortiz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Ortiz tries to clinch and Velasquez counters by clinching up. Ortiz with a knee to the head.

Velasquez has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Velasquez decides to stand back up. Velasquez steps back and let's Ortiz get back to his feet. Velasquez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Ortiz! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Velasquez landing punches. Velasquez is going olschool here, as he tries to force Ortiz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ortiz shrugs it off. Velasquez content just to control the position here. Ortiz is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Velasquez punishing his opponent with strikes. Velasquez wants to control the pace but Ortiz is squirming around nicely.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ortiz but Ortiz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Anderson Ortiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Velasquez throws a right and a left that both miss. Ortiz tries to clinch but fails miserably and Velasquez counters by moving into the clinch. And that's the end of the fight! JR Velasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Velasquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
