PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toti Rotiz (ranked 3024 p4p, 25090 weight class) and Johnny Cipriani (ranked 382 p4p, 675 weight class). Rotiz comes to the cage accompanied by Southtown . This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Toti Rotiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Johnny Cipriani!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cipriani avoids the body shot from Rotiz.

Rotiz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cipriani's guard.
Rotiz postures up.
Rotiz throwing strikes but missing.
Rotiz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Rotiz stands up over Cipriani, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rotiz trying to control but Cipriani is working from the bottom.
Rotiz prevents Cipriani from getting back to his feet.

Rotiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cipriani has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rotiz has managed to get both his arms back between Cipriani's legs - danger averted.
Rotiz cracks Cipriani with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rotiz connects with a couple of short punches.
Rotiz is pushing down on Cipriani's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cipriani is fighting to maintain full guard but Rotiz has managed to sneak the leg through.
Rotiz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Cipriani is defending against the submission attempts here by Rotiz.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rotiz connects with a nice short shot to Cipriani's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rotiz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cipriani with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Rotiz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rotiz winds up and cracks Cipriani with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cipriani is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rotiz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cipriani is just riding it out for now. Rotiz eventually gives up the hold.

Rotiz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cipriani wants to get back to full guard.

Rotiz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Rotiz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Cipriani is looking for a sweep. Rotiz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cipriani is pressing down on Rotiz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Rotiz is in close to Cipriani's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rotiz wants to control from the top but Cipriani keeps moving.

Rotiz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cipriani manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rotiz has Cipriani in his guard.

Cipriani looking to sit in guard and control but Rotiz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cipriani has momentary wrist control but Rotiz slips an elbow through the middle.

Cipriani is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rotiz defends well.

Rotiz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rotiz is working Cipriani over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cipriani has his foot on Rotiz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rotiz works his way back into a safe position though.
Rotiz stays in close to Cipriani's body and controls the position.

Cipriani is still in real trouble! Can Rotiz finish him?

Cipriani on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Rotiz is working for a submission of some sort.

Rotiz winds up and cracks Cipriani with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Rotiz is nestled in close to Cipriani, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Toti Rotiz dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Rotiz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cipriani dodges the punch combination from Rotiz.

Rotiz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cipriani's half guard.
Rotiz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rotiz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Rotiz is thwarting Cipriani's attempts to control the position.
Rotiz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Rotiz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cipriani does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rotiz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cipriani defends it well.
Cipriani has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rotiz is working away from the top position though.
Cipriani wants to get back to full guard.

Rotiz uses his free foot to push down on Cipriani's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cipriani.
Cipriani is wriggling around trying to escape.
Cipriani is breathing heavily.

A big strike lands for Rotiz! That's really hurt Cipriani and he's turned his back - Rotiz keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Rotiz jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Toti Rotiz!
Toti Rotiz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
