PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gawain Balian (ranked 4521 p4p, 4620 weight class) and Richard John Salvacion (ranked 515 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gawain Balian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balian fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Balian throws a right and a left that both miss.

Balian closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Salvacion quickly recovers to half guard.
Salvacion is looking to control Balian's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Salvacion avoid being mounted?
Balian content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Salvacion really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Balian. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Balian wants to work for an arm triangle but Salvacion is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Balian drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Salvacion dives on top into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Balian lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Balian swings around for an armbar but Salvacion sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Balian's guard.

Balian has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Salvacion is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Balian gets control of Salvacion's arms and successfully pulls guard. Balian will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Balian has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Salvacion has passed into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Balian is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Salvacion asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Balian goes for a double leg but Salvacion avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Salvacion continues to drive forward.

Balian wants to take the fight to the mat but Salvacion manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Salvacion tries to score a body lock takedown but Balian shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Salvacion drops down looking for an ankle pick but Balian pulls his leg out and moves away.

Balian is looking to stand back up but Salvacion counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Balian.
Balian is refusing to be controlled, as Salvacion sits in half guard.

Balian throws his legs up looking for a submission but Salvacion uses it to pass to side control.

Balian explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Balian shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Balian was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Salvacion tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!

Balian swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Balian on his heels. He'll look to pass Balian's guard now, I'm sure.

Balian pushes Salvacion off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Gawain Balian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Balian manages to pull guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Salvacion wants to control from the top but Balian keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Balian throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Salvacion looking to sit in guard and control but Balian gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Balian gets to his feet - Salvacion follows without any prompting.
Balian darts in looking for a takedown but Salvacion gets double underhooks and turns Balian into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gawain Balian. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salvacion has Balian pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Balian manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Balian has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Salvacion clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Salvacion looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Salvacion is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Balian gets his way!

Gawain Balian is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Balian, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
