PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Destro Vonstein (ranked 3546 p4p, 2001 weight class) and Dokuro Kunimatsu (ranked 386 p4p, 230 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Destro Vonstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dokuro Kunimatsu!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vonstein ducks under a wild hook from Kunimatsu.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kunimatsu. Vonstein does a little dance to reset his feet.

Kunimatsu gets caught napping as Vonstein dives in and scores a takedown. Kunimatsu manages to retain guard.
Vonstein throws a big right hand that misses.
Kunimatsu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Kunimatsu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vonstein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Vonstein throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kunimatsu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Vonstein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kunimatsu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Vonstein postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Kunimatsu has an active guard here but Vonstein has managed to pass into half guard.
Still in half guard, Vonstein seems content to control.

Vonstein is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Vonstein is looking to take a break and control but Kunimatsu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Vonstein has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kunimatsu is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vonstein wants to control from the top but Kunimatsu keeps moving.

Vonstein shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kunimatsu is trying to defend but Vonstein finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Vonstein is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kunimatsu is just riding it out for now. Vonstein eventually gives up the hold.

Vonstein lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Vonstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kunimatsu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vonstein defends it easily.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kunimatsu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vonstein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vonstein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vonstein throws a sloppy strike and Kunimatsu has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Vonstein is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Kunimatsu!
