PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie IV (ranked 1011 p4p, 2466 weight class) and Lucius Aurelius (ranked 151 p4p, 316 weight class). Lucius Aurelius told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lucius Aurelius!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aurelius misses with a lunging right hand
and IV counters with a lovely shot to the body.
IV displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Aurelius throws out the jab.
Nice cross by IV.
IV lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
IV lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Aurelius circles away quickly and effectively.
IV lands a jab to Aurelius's midsection.
IV throws a looping overhand right but Aurelius ducks down to avoid it.
IV tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Aurelius defends well and IV ends up having to push Aurelius into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
IV lands a hook that snaps the head of Aurelius backwards.

Aurelius wants to break the clinch but can't.

Aurelius escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Aurelius tries to move into range but IV moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Oooooh!!! IV has knocked Aurelius down with a huge combo! IV steps away and waves a wobbly Aurelius back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Lucius Aurelius has been cut.

IV decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. IV connects with a nice short shot to Aurelius's temple.

IV has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Aurelius has hold of IV's hands but IV slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

IV seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
