Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Peter Petersson (ranked 1698 p4p, 1181 weight class) and Anthony Merel (ranked 189 p4p, 138 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Anthony Merel enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Peter Petersson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Merel! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merel scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Petersson doesn't seem bothered though. Merel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Petersson.
Petersson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Petersson throws a hook but Merel blocks it. Petersson cracks Merel with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Petersson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Merel with the counter takedown but Petersson avoids it easily. Petersson throws a big shot that misses. Petersson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Merel moves away. Petersson throws a hook to the side of Merel's head but Merel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Merel with the counter takedown but Petersson avoids it easily. Merel works the jab nicely. Petersson missing with a left hand there. Merel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Petersson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Finch Gym in the buildup to the fight. Merel fails with a takedown attempt. Petersson takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Merel feints and as Petersson raises his hands in defense, Merel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Petersson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Merel.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petersson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Merel trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Merel throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Merel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Petersson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Petersson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Merel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Merel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Petersson keeping moving, preventing Merel from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Petersson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Merel. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Merel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Merel is looking to work some ground and pound but Petersson has wrist control. Merel connects with a couple of short punches. Merel throwing strikes from guard but Petersson blocks nicely. Merel trying to control the position from guard on top but Petersson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Merel preventing the sweep. Merel tries to free his leg and advance position but Petersson is retaining full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Petersson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Merel sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petersson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. The fighters circling - Petersson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Merel feints the counter takedown. Merel with a lazy takedown attempt and Petersson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Anthony Merel has been cut. Merel darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Merel gets a takedown into half guard. Merel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Petersson tries to get to full guard but Merel has control of the leg. Merel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Petersson's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merel winds up and cracks Petersson with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Merel performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Merel trying to control from half guard but Petersson is working away. Merel working over Petersson with some ground and pound. Petersson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Merel takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Merel slows the pace down in half guard. Petersson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Merel. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Anthony Merel dominated that round. The cut man is working on Anthony Merel's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. A telegraphed right hand from Petersson misses the target. Merel scores with a jab. Merel connects with a nice looking jab.
Petersson on the wrong end of a nice jab. A slow jab from Merel misses its intended target. Merel with a poor takedown and Petersson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Petersson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Petersson needs to keep his hands up - Merel had a free shot at his head there. Merel uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Petersson. Petersson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Merel throws out the jab. Petersson throws a lazy right hand but Merel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Merel swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Petersson throws a hook but Merel avoids it easily. Merel has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Petersson scores with a jab to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Merel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Petersson.
Merel moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Merel fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petersson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Merel smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Petersson is rocked! Petersson tries to get into range but Merel steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Petersson! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Merel scores the big KO victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Anthony Merel! A relieved looking Anthony Merel thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
