Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cyrus Jackson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dick Cummings! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ron Honeybunn and Darius Henderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cummings lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cummings.
It looks like Cyrus Jackson has been cut. Jackson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Jackson tries to clinch up. Cummings misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jackson.
Cummings circles away from the clinch attempt and Cummings counters with a right hand to the body. Cummings throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Jackson tries to clinch but Cummings moves away and Cummings cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Jackson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Cummings makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Jackson walks into a straight right hand from Cummings. Cummings's coach down at Gym Goroshi London was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cummings's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cummings lands with a shot to the body. Cummings with a body punch. A glancing blow. Sloppy strikes from Cummings. Those never looked like landing. Cummings misses with a body shot.
Jackson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cummings manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cummings fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it. Cummings connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jackson's hands. Jackson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Cummings moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Jackson throws a right hand that misses
and Cummings counters with a nice body shot. Cummings lands a body shot.
Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cummings throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Jackson's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Cummings dives in looking to finish as Jackson flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Cummings's strikes! Cummings is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Jackson's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Jackson was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dick Cummings! Our winner, Dick Cummings, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
