Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Alverez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John R Swanson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alverez swings for the body but Swanson moves out of range.
Diego Alverez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alverez moves out of range of the body kick.
Alverez connects with a looping right hand.
Swanson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alverez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Swanson somewhat.
Alverez avoids the head kick by Swanson.
Alverez is looking for a counter combo.
Alverez listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
It looks like John R Swanson has been cut.
We've been told by Alverez's head coaches at Besta-Fera Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Swanson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alverez as he avoids it easily.
And Alverez counters with a quick kick to the body but Swanson blocks it.
Alverez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Swanson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Alverez stalks Swanson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Swanson's face. Swanson staggers backwards, shaken.
Swanson is rocked!
Alverez swats away the attempt to clinch by Swanson.
Alverez throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Swanson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Swanson looks winded!
Swanson tries to clinch but Alverez moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Swanson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alverez, pushing him back against the cage.
Alverez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Swanson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Alverez.
Alverez lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Alverez lands a body punch.
Alverez's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Swanson tries to pull guard but Alverez won't allow it.
Diego Alverez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John R Swanson.
Alverez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alverez lands a left and a right that send Swanson crashing to the mat, dazed. Alverez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Swanson is still on wobbly legs! Can Alverez finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A nice inside leg kick there by Alverez. That's going to slow Swanson down.
Alverez ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Diego Alverez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Alverez cracks Swanson with a brutal left hook that knocks him out cold! This one is over in a flash! Game over!
