CWC 307 - Prelims PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 17 losses; Don Lemieux! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 21 losses; Frank Andersson! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lemieux leaves Andersson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Lemieux moves into range and clinches up with Andersson. Lemieux has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Andersson uses from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Andersson trying to control the position from guard on top but Lemieux is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Andersson looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Andersson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Andersson advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Lemieux (0) vs (3) Andersson We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Andersson tries to advance to mount but Lemieux denies him. Lemieux is trying to improve his position. Lemieux has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lemieux is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Andersson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Lemieux trying to control from the bottom.
Andersson wants to pass to mount but Lemieux is defending the position. Lemieux is trying to maintain the position but Andersson is very close to passing his half guard. Lemieux is looking for a sweep. Andersson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Andersson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Lemieux (0) vs (6) Andersson Lemieux wants to control but Andersson is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Andersson takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Score +3 for taking back: Lemieux (0) vs (9) Andersson Andersson looking to break Lemieux's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Lemieux remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Andersson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Andersson is trying to stick to Lemieux's back but Lemieux is turning into Andersson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Andersson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Lemieux. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Lemieux (2) vs (9) Andersson Andersson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lemieux defends well. Andersson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Andersson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lemieux haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Lemieux stays in close to Andersson's body and controls the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Andersson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Lemieux should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Andersson has tightened it up now! Lemieux should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
