PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cayden Abner (ranked 693 p4p, 2379 weight class) and Lord Mammon (ranked 98 p4p, 304 weight class). Abner's entrance music is Bulls On Parade. A fine choice. Lord Mammon struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Cayden Abner had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cayden Abner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lord Mammon!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mammon looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Abner decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mammon tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Abner counters with a thumping low kick.

Abner moves into the clinch successfully.

Abner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Abner darts in and clinches Mammon up against the cage.

Abner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Abner shoots in for a double leg but Mammon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mammon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mammon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Abner shoots in but Mammon avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Abner fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cayden Abner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Abner uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mammon.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abner slips under a jab from Mammon.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mammon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Abner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mammon did well to prevent Abner getting side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mammon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mammon is trying to stand up here but Abner is controlling him well.

Abner is nestled in close to Mammon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Abner is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Abner is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mammon sees it coming and defends easily.
Mammon keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mammon is trying to stand up here but Abner is controlling him well.

Abner gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Abner shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mammon napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mammon is trying to escape the position but Abner is controlling the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Abner thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
A lull in the action here as Abner stalls from top position.
Abner's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Mammon is trying to buck Abner off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Abner thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mammon is trying to get back to his feet.

Abner stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Abner clinches up with Mammon and pushes him back against the cage.

Abner pulls guard.

Abner has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Mammon is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Abner misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mammon.

Abner pulls Mammon into guard.
Abner throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Mammon wants to stand but Abner has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Mammon being controlled here momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Abner is looking to cinch up a triangle. Mammon throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Abner's body to avoid the submission. Abner has instead reached around Mammon's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Abner arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Cayden Abner!
Cayden Abner bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
