The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bednar goes for a double leg but Smith avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Smith continues to drive forward.
Smith is looking to take this one to the mat.

Bednar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bednar pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.

Bednar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick from Bednar lands but Smith takes it in his stride.

Smith throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bednar tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smith is in Bednar's guard.

Smith throws a big elbow that misses.

Bednar wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Smith is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Bednar frees his head nicely. Oh but Smith has switched to an armbar! Bednar is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
