PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teco Avelino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Teco Avelino!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avelino gets the takedown into side control.

Avelino thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sawyer gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sawyer manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Avelino stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sawyer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sawyer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Avelino wants to control from the top but Sawyer keeps moving.

Sawyer has his foot on Avelino's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Avelino works his way back into a safe position though.

Sawyer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Avelino, up you get!

and Avelino counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sawyer's guard now.

Avelino is looking to control Sawyer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Avelino avoid being mounted?

Sawyer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy Sawyer will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sawyer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Avelino jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sawyer walks away with a smile on his face. Avelino gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sawyer closes the distance and pushes Avelino back into the cage.

Sawyer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Avelino avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Avelino keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Sawyer is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Avelino has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tommy Sawyer.
Well Sawyer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
