PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yamapi Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Revene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chan comes to the cage accompanied by Daite Senorita. Revene is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Philadelphia Eagles . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yamapi Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Revene!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick from Chan lands but Revene takes it in his stride.
Chan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Revene tries to avoid it but Chan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Revene to the ground. Revene escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Revene throws a one two combo.
Chan moves in looking to clinch but Revene pushes him off.
Chan tries to clinch but Revene is having none of it.
Chan tries to clinch but Revene moves out of range.
Chan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Revene pinned against the cage. Revene gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Chan moves in looking to clinch but Revene pushes him off.

Chan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Revene, pushing him back against the cage.
Revene tries to pull guard but Chan holds him up against the cage and eventually Revene drops back down to his feet.
Chan looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Revene wants the takedown. Chan is fighting it off but Revene persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Chan's guard against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chan managing to control the position.
Revene trying to control but Chan is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chan working a defensive guard here.
Chan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Revene is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chan throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Revene is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chan has escaped and now he's on top!
Revene trying to keep a closed guard but Chan is proving a slippery customer.
Chan trying to control but Revene is working from the bottom.
Chan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Revene's guard.
Chan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Revene really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Chan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Chan prevents Revene from getting back to his feet.
Chan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Revene's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Revene stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yamapi Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Revene shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Revene has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Revene throwing strikes here but Chan is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Chan throwing hammer fists to the chest of Revene. What's that going to do exactly?
Revene throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Chan because Revene loaded up on that one.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan is desperately trying to improve his position but Revene has a good base and remains in mount.
Chan wants to control but Revene is having none of it.
Chan swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Chan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Revene can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chan is looking to escape.
Chan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Revene pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Chan swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chan can't escape the position.
Chan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Chan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Chan tries to reverse the position but Revene maintains control.
A nice elbow there by Revene.
Chan wants to hold on but Revene pushes him away.
Chan throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Revene tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Revene landing strikes, looking to finish!
Revene looking to control but Chan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Chan tries to lock up and control but Revene gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mark Revene will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Chan throws a head kick that half lands.
Revene has a takedown stuffed.
Chan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chan wants to clinch.

Revene decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Chan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Chan is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Revene rolls with it to try and escape but Chan cranks on the arm and Revene is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yamapi Chan!
