PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Garcia (ranked 25428 p4p, 4625 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stephen Garcia !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia throws a right and a left that Kiang avoids nicely.
Kiang replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Garcia blocks it well.
Garcia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kiang fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Garcia to the ground. Kiang is now in Garcia 's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kiang controls from within his opponent's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Garcia is looking to stand back up but Kiang counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Garcia .

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Garcia is staying active underneath Kiang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Garcia throws a head kick but Kiang moves out of range.
Kiang follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Stephen Garcia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kiang scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Garcia is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kiang is controlling him well.

Garcia really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A low kick from Kiang is predictable there
and Garcia counters with an outside leg kick.

Garcia lands with a shot to the body.

That was a close round but I would say that Stephen Garcia will probably get the nod.

Garcia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kiang has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Garcia is trying to escape back to his feet but Kiang uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Garcia pushes Kiang away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kiang gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Garcia trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Kiang closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Garcia quickly recovers to half guard.
Garcia tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kiang manages to move to mount!
Garcia 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Garcia is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Kiang looking to control but Garcia is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kiang fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Garcia really wants to buck Kiang off and get back to his feet.

Kiang postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Garcia looks a forlorn figure.

I think Kiang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
