PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Munhoz (ranked 1426 p4p, 2336 weight class) and Matth Thibodeaux (ranked 192 p4p, 302 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Alex Munhoz has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alex Munhoz seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Munhoz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matth Thibodeaux!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thibodeaux throws a head kick that misses.
Munhoz tries for a takedown but Thibodeaux circles away easily
and Thibodeaux counters with a stiff right hand.

Munhoz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Munhoz passes to side control.
A lull in the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Munhoz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thibodeaux keeps working.
Thibodeaux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Munhoz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Munhoz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thibodeaux, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Thibodeaux's face as Munhoz controls the position.

Munhoz tries to move to mount but Thibodeaux blocks the move with his legs.

Munhoz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thibodeaux has escaped the position, nice work there.

Munhoz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Thibodeaux is looking for a sweep.
Munhoz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Munhoz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Thibodeaux is trying to improve his position.
Munhoz looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Munhoz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thibodeaux, who protects the arm well.

Munhoz advances to mount.
Munhoz looking to control but Thibodeaux is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Thibodeaux is desperately trying to improve his position but Munhoz has a good base and remains in mount.
Thibodeaux bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Munhoz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Munhoz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Thibodeaux!
Munhoz avoids the attempt from Thibodeaux to control.

Munhoz wants to take his opponent's back but Thibodeaux doesn't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Munhoz wants to finish this one by submission but Thibodeaux is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Munhoz.
Thibodeaux is looking to improve his position but Munhoz isn't that keen on the idea.
Munhoz is trying to take his opponent's back.
Munhoz moves to back control.

Munhoz is looking for the choke from the back position but Thibodeaux is controlling his hands well.

Munhoz has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Thibodeaux has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Munhoz keeps control of the position as Thibodeaux tries to break free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Munhoz working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Thibodeaux is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Munhoz has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Thibodeaux taps out!
