PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kaimana Makani (ranked 3374 p4p, 5073 weight class) and Peter Tham (ranked 370 p4p, 458 weight class). Makani comes to the cage accompanied by How far I'll go. Peter Tham is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kaimana Makani!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Tham!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tham displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Makani throws out the jab.
Tham throws out a counter right but Makani avoids it with no problem.
Makani fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tham avoids it really well and circles away.
Tham connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Makani shoots in for a double leg but Tham sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Tham wants to clinch.
Makani looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tham is fending him off so far but Makani persists. Nope, Tham circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaimana Makani. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Makani shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Makani was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Makani cracks Tham with a big right hand but Tham just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Makani is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tham is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Makani looks up at the clock and then as Tham takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Makani smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Tham is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Tham takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Makani cracks Tham with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Makani connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Tham some visible discomfort.
Makani is chipping away with strikes.

Makani trying to control the action but Tham is working from the bottom.

Makani has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Makani tries for a kimura but Tham is defending well.
Tham is looking to reverse the position.

Makani creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
A lull in the action here as Makani stalls from top position.
Makani is working Tham over with some ground and pound from side control.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kaimana Makani dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Makani shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tham napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Makani is putting a hurting on Tham here, landing some big shots from side control.
Tham takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Tham is still in real trouble! Can Makani finish him?
Makani grinds an elbow into Tham's temple.
Makani just content to control the position.
Tham seems to have recovered his senses.
Tham is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Makani working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Makani looks up at the clock and then as Tham takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Makani smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Makani scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Tham is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Makani can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kaimana Makani!
Our winner, Kaimana Makani, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
