This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; Steve Louis! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 0 losses; Mirko Kozlov! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Kozlov wants to clinch. Louis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kozlov defends it nicely. And Kozlov tries to counter it with a takedown but Louis pushes his down on his head and steps out. Louis has been working on his balance at Canadian Combat Academy, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Kozlov. Louis fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Louis instigates a clinch. Kozlov jumps guard but Louis stands there with Kozlov around his waist. Kozlov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kozlov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Louis walks away with a smile on his face. Kozlov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Louis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kozlov swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Louis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Louis fails with the takedown. Kozlov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Louis to the ground. Kozlov is now in Louis's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Louis (0) vs (2) Kozlov
That's one minute gone in the round. Kozlov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Louis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Kozlov advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Louis (0) vs (5) Kozlov Kozlov is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Louis's shoulder. That is not cool. Kozlov tries to advance to mount but Louis denies him. Louis is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Louis wants to control but Kozlov postures up. Kozlov in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Louis is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Mirko Kozlov was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. |
