PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akuma Manivong (ranked 993 p4p, 785 weight class) and Lou Slugger (ranked 139 p4p, 111 weight class). Slugger comes into a darkened arena with his song building. For Heavy Metal we will die! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Lou Slugger acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Akuma Manivong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lou Slugger!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slugger misses with a right hand
and Manivong connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Lou Slugger has been cut.
Manivong has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Manivong takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Slugger misses with a hook
enabling Manivong to counter with a crisp jab.
Slugger takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Slugger misses with a body punch
and Manivong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Manivong moves out of range as Slugger throws a body kick.
Manivong looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slugger swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Slugger throws a shot from downtown. Manivong moves away and avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Manivong lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Slugger has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Slugger and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Manivong closes the distance looking to clinch
and Slugger cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Slugger moves out of range of the body kick.
Slugger looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Manivong is looking to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Slugger's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Lou Slugger is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Manivong throws a right and a left that both miss.
Slugger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
It looked like Manivong was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Slugger.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Slugger lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Slugger misses with a kick to the body
and Manivong counters with a low kick, right behind Slugger 's knee.
Slugger tries to bum rush Manivong with a series of wild strikes but Manivong uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Slugger throws a quick inside leg kick.
Manivong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slugger doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Manivong rushes Slugger and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Manivong lands a nice uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Manivong is trying to pull guard but Slugger turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Manivong lands a hook to the side of the head.
Manivong lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Slugger looks winded!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Manivong blocks a body shot from Slugger.
A right handed body shot lands from Manivong.
Manivong lands a shot to the body.
Manivong lands a nice uppercut.
Manivong pushes Slugger back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Manivong scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Manivong scores with a shot to the side of Slugger's head.

Manivong is trying to trip Slugger. He has hold of a leg but Slugger is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Manivong persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Slugger is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Manivong dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The ground and pound from Manivong seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Manivong scoring with punches and elbows.

Manivong is working to tighten his grip on Slugger's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Slugger has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Manivong is really squeezing tight and eventually Slugger passes out! Manivong breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Akuma Manivong!
Akuma Manivong decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
